Quit Now! Never Quit!

We've all heard the quotes about how you should never quit...
  • “If you quit ONCE it becomes a habit.Never quit!” – Michael Jordan
  • "Effort only fully releases its reward after a person REFUSES to quit." – Napoleon Hill
  • "Winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit." – Unknown
  • “Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.” – Lance Armstrong
  • "Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit." – Vince Lombardi
  • "It’s always too early to quit." – Norman Vincent Peale

But have we heard these quotes about quitting?
  • "Of all the stratagems, to know when to quit is the best." – Chinese Proverb
  • "If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There’s no point in being a damn fool about it." – W.C. Fields Quote
"Better said, quitting the things that are wrong for you is completely necessary to achieve what you’re really after." (Advanced Riskology Blog: Quitting: An Essential Ingredient for Success).

I remember two years ago, I was involved in an internship that I was originally excited about. The people in charge of this internship made us all promise not to quit. I put hours and hours and hours of time into training, preparation, going door-to-door, calling people, & getting organized for the summer. But I had this sinking feeling in my stomach as time went on. I knew it wasn't the right opportunity for me, but I had promised not to quit. I decided on summer won't kill me, I'll just do the internship even though I KNOW it's not a right fit for me anymore. Finally the sinking feeling in my stomach was too much too bare! So I quit. And for awhile I felt really good that I had quit. But then all these negative thoughts came into my mind like, "You're a quitter." "You've always been a quitter." "You'll never finish anything." I don't ever want to think of myself in a negative way, but I definitely was, I was a "quitter."

Recently I read in a book about how it is important to quit the wrong things to be able to say "yes" to better opportunities. I realized from that that there are two different meanings for the word quit! It is so vital to keep progressing towards your goals. "Don't quit before your miracle." But also, be mindful & aware of your heart, your spirit, and your needs to know when it is time to quit one opportunity for a better one.

“Celebrate endings, for they precede new beginnings.” ~Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Be open to new beginnings! Be open to change! Be open to opportunities! And live to your full potential!
